After I became a mom, food that was easy to make became a necessity in our routine.
Before we got our milk cow’s, I tested a few Instant Pot yogurt recipes I found online. Most of them contained extra ingredients I didn’t like to make the yogurt thicker and more flavorful.
You can imagine my excitement when we started overflowing with milk, and I was able to start creating my own yogurt for our family. This recipe creates a quart or so of yogurt for a great price, too!
If you don’t have access to raw milk, you could try using “ultra-pasturized” milk from the store, as most Instant Pot yogurt recipes call for this. I had tried to use store-bought whole milk, and it was very, very thin.
The links below are Amazon affiliate links. It does not cost you anymore to order from them, but it does give me a little extra income as a stay-at-home-mom. I will only share links of products I personally recommend that I have tested or used myself.
This yogurt isn’t heated enough to pasteurize your milk, leaving you with all of the great benefits of raw milk in your yogurt. It isn’t quite as thick as traditional Greek yogurt, so if you’d like it thicker, I recommend purchasing this yogurt strainer.
Whether you are eating this for breakfast, snack, or a dessert, make a double batch because it will be a family hit! We love to top ours with chia seeds, sliced almonds, fresh fruit, chocolate chips, and coconut flakes. But, the possibilities are endless!
INGREDIENTS
• 1/2 gallon of skimmed, raw milk (use the cream for butter or coffee creamer!)
• 2 tbsp. of yogurt starter
Use a store-bought yogurt with LIVE active cultures (such as fage brand, it doesnt contain any extra ingredients like natural flavors) then, after you make this recipe once, yogurt from your previous batch can be used each time!
INSTRUCTIONS
In the morning, add about 1 cup of your raw milk to your clean & sterilized Instant Pot, add in your yogurt starter, and whisk to combine. Doing this little amount first helps the yogurt blend easier. Then, add the rest of your milk and mix thoroughly.
Once everything is mixed, add on a regular pot lid that fits your Instant Pot (this doesn’t need sealed, so, no need to use your Instant Pot lid)
Press the “Yogurt” button once, and the timer should appear. Cook 8-12 hours until the desired flavor is reached. Check at 8 hours and then every hour after. It will continue to get more “tangy” as time goes on.
Once cooking is completed, add to your yogurt strainer and place it in the fridge overnight. The whey will separate to the bottom. Don’t throw out whey – you can feed it to your pigs or chickens!
And there you have it! Delicious, easy, two ingredient yogurt, full of the best probiotics and vitamins.
